Alternote

Alternote is a note-taking app for Mac OS X that integrates with Evernote and is meant to simplify both note taking and organizing. Because Alternote is backed by Evernote, you can sync data between the two apps, while having an alternative note-taking app for your Mac. The software helps you focus on writing notes and other information by dimming the appearance of the interface, and giving you the option to hide the side bar, while you are in writing mode. The search feature, accessible right after start-up, allows you to search through note titles and content. You can also customize the font settings, color scheme and theme to fit your needs. Review: Alternote provides a simplified version of the Evernote app for the Mac, which is ideal for those who are overwhelmed by all of the features in Evernote. This software focuses on making it easy to take notes, organize notes, and find notes, while still providing users with a well-designed interface. For those who use Evernote on other devices, Alternote supports integration with Evernote which allows you to sync your notes between the two apps. The interface is beautiful, but simple, with intuitive controls and clear access to features. Similar to Evernote, the interface includes three panes for notebooks, notes, and taking notes. In the notebooks pane, there is a for you to review tags without having to go to a whole other view. Although you can favorite a note in Alternote, these favorites do not sync up with the Evernote app on your other devices. One downside of the Alternote software is the limited Markdown support. If you write in Markdown within the app it automatically converts it to rich text. However, you can paste Markdown text into the app and the software will not alter it. Keyboard shortcuts make it easier to perform almost any task within the app. You can also customize your font size and type, although there is only seven font options. Distraction free mode lets you hide the sidebar and dim the interface while you focus on writing.
