Byword
Byword is a piece of software that acts as a markdown editor, and when you take full advantage of the software, you'll be able to focus on your writing with a much higher rate of success and stability. All the tools you need are right at your fingertips, and you can easily share your creations with others in various formats thanks to the exporting functions built in to the software. If there's a way that software can streamline the writing process, Byword has it covered.
- Multiple Writing Tools
- Easy Sharing
- Publish Directly
- Simple UI
- Subpar Document Navigation Controls
One of the most appealing features of Byword is that the user interface isn't overly complicated or too busy. The work page is essentially blank, so you won't be distracted by a busy interface that prevents you from getting your work done. You won't have to worry about excessive toolbars or other items adding any clutter to your UI, and you'll still be able to use all the most vital tools with hotkeys or hidden drop-down menus. The minimalist design of the software is one of its strongest points. Another widely sought feature of software in this category is direct publishing, and Byword can handle that with ease. Of course, you'll need the upgraded Pro version to unlock this functionality, but with that Pro version, you'll be able to export content from the Byword software directly to your website, blog, or other online location. This instant publishing is rare in editor apps, and supported platforms include Blogger, Evernote, Tumblr, Wordpress, and Scriptogram. Unfortunately, there are some negatives associated with the Byword software. For instance, it is quite difficult to navigate through documents that are exceptionally long. Shorter files don't really have this problem, but you'll find a noticeable lack of anything that breaks up the text in longer files. This makes it difficult to deal with larger documents. In the future, perhaps the addition of navigation features that operate through headings or paragraph breaks would be useful. With the fullscreen feature, you can immerse yourself in your writing by blocking out everything else. The autosave feature prevents you from losing any work that you might forget to save, and the software creates 'checkpoints' so you can go back and see how a file has progressed over time. You don't have to worry about saving a file when you close the software since it automatically reopens at the same point where you stopped working during your last session. The keyboard shortcuts in this software are easy to learn, which is nice since many of the functions are invisible so you can focus on the text itself. Byword is capable of opening plain text files of any variety, and there are several different themes that compliment your psychological writing setting. When you start to type, elements that aren't necessary in that moment fade away, creating a clean UI. You'll be able to see a live count of both the characters and words in your composition, and there's a unique scrolling mode that operates a lot like a typewriter for an even more authentic writing experience. Like all good editors, you'll have access to powerful grammar and spelling checkers as well.
