Despite the surge of solid state drives in recent years, most computer owners still have a good old fashioned hard disk drive as either a primary or media storage device on their computer or laptop. And while solid state drives aren't immune to problems, they are a lot less prone to them than an unstable metal disk that spins at over 7,000 rotations per minute. Naturally, software has arisen over the years to help people mitigate the risk and potential damage to data that can be caused by a faulty or failing hard disk drive. Ashampoo's HDD Control 3 is one such software. Its features include the ability to lower data access times, restore accidentally deleted files and help locate redundant or inefficient files and delete them. It's a solid deal at $30, and the software regularly goes on sale beyond that (it was $9 at the time of research). A corporate version of the software is available to monitor multiple computers at the same time over a network.
