IDisplay

IDisplay

IDisplay is an app that turns a mobile device into a secondary desktop monitor. The app currently supports iOS, Android, Windows and MacOS, and it lets users connect a desktop computer to a mobile device over WiFi. Mac users can further connect a computer to a mobile device using a USB-C cable. Once connected, the mobile device functions just like any other secondary monitor. Users can mirror their display on their mobile device or they can use the mobile device for extra screen space. An app is required for both the desktop computer and the mobile device, but the apps for desktop computers are provided free of charge.

IDisplay Reviews

In recent years tablets and mobile phones have gotten larger and larger, and they have increased their screen resolutions, too. This makes them comparable to many laptop monitors. iDisplay takes advantage of this, allowing you to use one of these devices as a secondary monitor. Not only is having a second monitor useful for increasing your productivity, but having a wireless second monitor creates all sorts of possibilities. For example, imagine giving a business presentation. You pass could around an iPad that you control to help demonstrate your product or service. iDisplay is also very easy to set up. It connects your desktop with your mobile device over WiFi, and it does so automatically. If you have a Mac, you can also use a USB-C cable. The company says that they will soon be releasing an Android version that works with USB as well. However, iDisplay is not without its drawbacks, and there are many of them. It is relatively expensive as far as mobile apps go, and it currently has lots of technical problems, especially on Android. These problems include connectivity issues and flickering. It can also be very slow. Customer support is further terrible, with many users complaining about unanswered support requests. At both iTunes and Google Play the app currently has very low user ratings. Still, if SHAPE GmbH — the creator of the app — can address these problems and offer the app at a better price, iDisplay could become a very useful tool.
