IBooks Author is an application for people to use to write novels, textbooks, cookbooks, and other kinds of books in the proper format. When authors use iBooks Author to write their books, the program gives the user an option to export their book directly to Apple iBooks or iTunes U for publishing. iBooks Author includes templates that you can use to format your book and the templates can include page numbers, indexes, table of contents, and other things to get you started. The app also gives you the ability to change the view of your book from portrait for textbooks or novels to landscape for cookbooks. You can import chapters or text from word processing software like Word to avoid rewriting and add Multitouch widgets to your book so that the reader can interact with the book as they go. iBooks Author is free to download on your Mac from the App Store and free to use. iBooks Author is convenient for any writer looking to self-publish or just create a book. The app is free which is great for any person on a budget and offers a lot of great tools and features to help get your book created. iBooks Author has some templates to choose from to set your book up and that is a great help for anyone who isn't sure how to format a book and helps you to know for sure that the book is going to look right. Being that the app is free, you get what you pay for in the sense that the number of templates available to use is pretty slim. The templates available are all the basics, but that works for a person who just needs a running start. Being able to export the book to iBooks once it is complete is also a plus as it cuts down on time and makes it easy to self-publish your book if that is what you are aiming to do with it. The worst thing about the app, though, is that it is only available on Mac so it lacks the convenience of being available on mobile. The app is pretty good as it is but definitely has the potential to be better.
