Mac users are used to getting the short end of the stick when it comes to mainstream programs. The good news is that there have always been a large number of alternatives for those who own a Mac. Affinity Photo is a photo editor that rivals Photoshop in many ways. One area where it differs is price. This program is much less expensive than its Adobe counterpart. The price is just $49.99, but it would be wrong to call this a budget photo suite. It has far too many features to earn such a designation. Resolution independent editing and RAW processing are just two of the features that professionals will love about this software. We won't go so far as to say it is a complete replacement for Photoshop, but it is pretty close. The program is developed by Serif, and the company seems to have taken a proactive stance in trying to steal some of Photoshop's market share. Users will find color management, lens corrections, and healing brushes just like they would in a more expensive program. It also supports RAW and 16-bit files, but there is no 3D editing function. Users do not have to exit the interface to use important tools like the RAW processor. It is also possible to create many useful presets that can then be used to edit other photos. The tools offered by the program take some time to master. There is no question about that. Users who have some Photoshop experience will probably discover that the time required to master the bells and whistles of the program is much less than it is for novices. Many people have used Affinity Photo with great success, and it is expected that the program will continue to become more useful as developers add more features.
