Luminar Reviews

Luminar was first introduced in 2017 as a Mac alternative to Lightroom and Photoshop. In 2018, the company behind the software expanded its reach and made the software available for Windows. One of the big advantages is the software's price point of $69. This makes it much more affordable than other subscription-based platforms. The layout of Luminar is different from that of other programs. It permits editing single images but also incorporates layers. Edits that are made on one photo can be saved as a preset to use on other images. This one feature saves a lot of time when it comes to tackling multiple images with the goal of going for the same artistic feel. The features of the program include photo filters, dehaze, black and white conversion, photo enhancement, photo effects, and color editing. It is also possible to perform photo restoration with the program. By far, however, the most impressive feature is called Golden Hour. It allows users to capture and replicate the effects of that hour of sunset which photographers live for. This one feature alone is worth the price of the entire program. Luminar also offers some other software programs that are compatible with this photo editor and provide increased functionality. These include Creative Kit and FX Photo Studio. Add-ons are reasonably priced and do not require a subscription. As stated earlier, Luminar has a one-time purchase price of $69. This is way below what similar programs cost. There are also discounts offered for military personnel, students, and educators. There are a few drawbacks to the program. The Clone and Stamp features leave something to be desired. The High Key filter feature is also hit or miss. The effect it produces can be less than satisfactory. Only one image can be opened at once, but that one image can be pasted in layers. Still, those who are used to Lightroom will wish they had the ability to open multiple photos at the same time. Asset management is also lacking in this software. To be fair, the developers of Luminar have stated that an update is coming in 2018 that will include this feature. Until then, the software still stands as a good alternative for those who do not want to make the investment required to use Lightroom.
