Yahoo remains one of the most popular platforms for email, web searches, and news. It can sometimes be hard, however, to find all of Yahoo's services. My Yahoo brings everything together in one convenient window. Users can get a snapshot of their Yahoo account, get up to date on the latest news, and even access older Yahoo services that are hard to find unless one has them bookmarked. The My Yahoo interface is simple and straightforward. After logging in, users are greeted by a page which displays the latest news headlines. The headlines one sees can be customized. Those who prefer political stories will see those first. Those who like sports will get sports stories higher up in the feed. The point of the platform is to provide an individual with the news that Yahoo thinks he or she will appreciate most. The selections are usually spot on if the account holder has taken the time to set their preferences. There is a toolbar at the top of the screen which has numerous tabs. Mail, News, Finance, Sports, and Lifestyle are some of the choices. Clicking any one of these tabs will take the user to the appropriate section. The Finance tab is especially useful for those who want to monitor stocks and other investments. Yahoo Mail is easily accessible from this platform. In addition to the Mail tab there is an icon on the upper right side of the screen which can be clicked to go directly to the mail platform. There is also an alarm icon which will indicate important notifications or new items. Weather is also a part of the platform. This can be set to display the weather in a specific zip code. Finally, those who have long used the old Yahoo Groups feature will appreciate that they can find their favorite groups with ease. Several years ago, Yahoo ceased to make group web addresses available in search results. This makes them hard to find. The only real drawback to My Yahoo is that it can become a little bit cluttered at times. Also, there are ads to contend with on the site. If one is able to look past these things, My Yahoo offers user-friendly convenience.
I keep using the "show less" function on the main yahoo page hoping to get rid of all things Kardashian, realty tv based and celebrity crap in general. It seems to retaliate by showing even more of what I consider to be the cholesterol of internet traffic. I just can't care about all these "famous for nothing at all" or worse those who escalate bad behavior to up their ratings and ad revenue. It would be nice to have a feature that allows users to not have the subject of an article - the Kardashian clan for instance - to not be show AT ALL on the home page or anywhere else during their yahoo experience.
It used to be be great and I've used it for 15+ years. The new feeds now seems to push more ads than content and the finance section frequently is broken. It seems the support team was cut and they are in minimal maintenance mode now. What a shame.
I hate the "News For You" content. It's internet trash, celebrity gossip and click bait. I finally discovered that you can remove that content section and add real news stories based on your preferences from reputable news organizations. My rating is 3 because they make it hard to get rid of that junk.
