Ultrafunk has made finding a decent email client a little easier with Popcorn. This efficient email client is offered as a free download, and it includes many of the same features that are found in expensive email applications. Users can send and receive email using connections that are encrypted by SSL, set up multiple accounts, and compose email with a built-in editor. It also includes an address book, and users can easily send mass emails. The security features of Popcorn are where the program excels. For starters, it blocks all attachments and viewing emails in HTML. This is a mixed blessing. The feature does a great job of keeping out harmful viruses, but it doesn't discriminate. Emails with attachments from trusted sources will also be blocked. This can be changed, of course, by creating a whitelist and tweaking some settings, but some users will lose a few emails before they figure out how to accomplish these tasks. Popcorn's mail editor is very standard. It allows users to compose and send emails, add attachments, forward emails, and add copies. It is possible to import the emails received or written in Popcorn to other email applications. One of the nicer things about the software is that it can be placed on a CD or USB drive. It does not have to be downloaded to a user's system. Finally, multiple individuals can use the client by creating their own profiles. No new updates for Popcorn are forthcoming from Ultrafunk. It can still be downloaded and used for free, and will work well for those who want a simple but effective email platform.
